The distance between the coasts of Tunisia and Lampedusa is less than the distance between the Italian coast and Lampedusa: the former is 133 km and the latter 224 km. Passi consists of two mirror polished bronze bars of 10x68x10 cm. The end of one of the bars is engraved with “x 195,588”, while the other is engraved with “x 329,411”. The size of each bar is the length of the artist’s step, so multiplying the numbers engraved on each bar by its length gives the distance that separates Lampedusa from the Tunisian coast and Lampedusa from Sicily.
